Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate on the Asia Abroad program?
Any one can participate in the program.

Do I have to register for a course to participate?
No. Come just for fun!

When will I have to come up with a full payment?
Participants will have thru May 27, 2022 to pay for the excursion. Small payments can be made over the course of the semester. Please keep in mind, however, that there are no refunds of any payments.

Will I have time to explore these countries on my own?
Yes. I'm a true believer in allowing participants to explore aspects of a culture that most interest them. Some participants may wish to attend a sushi making course in Japan while others may want to visit a Buddhist temple. You choose your own adventures!

How will travel to/from the cruise ship and/or airport be organized?
Participants will be required to purchase their own airfare. However, because transfers between those cities and the airport is included in the program, I encourage that participants fly in a group so that additional charges are not incurred in getting to/from the cruise ships. Air travel will be finalized once the program reaches its capacity.

Can I arrive early or stay later before/after the cruise?
Yes. Those who wish to extend their tour of Asia can stay longer, either before or after the cruise. However, the program leader is not responsible for any participant whose travel plans are outside of the program dates (June 4 -14).

What is included in the program fee?
All accommodations are included. Most meals are included. All transfers for planned excursions in Japan as well as transfers to/from airport/ship in Japan are also included.

What is NOT included?
City excursions not stated in the itinerary, food off-board the ship, internet and/or cell phone charges, checked baggage charges incurred by the airlines, and transportation to/from the Miami airport.

How much will this program actually cost?
This is the most often asked question, yet the most difficult to answer since many factors are involved. The cost of the excursion is $3,500. Participants should plan on bringing an additional $200 to cover items such as street food or souveniers.

What cities will we visit?
We will be visiting 4 cities in Japan (Tokyo, Kobe, Kyoto, Kagoshima) and one city in South South Korea (Jeju)

Do I need a passport to participate?
Yes. Participants must have a valid passport for the duration of the program. Passports can take weeks to arrive so it is strongly encouraged those interested begin the process of obtaining a passport as soon as they are able.

How will cabins be assigned on board the ship?
I have reserved a set of various cabin sizes each which will accommodate 4 participants. I do not anticipate having co-ed cabins.
